Bio
Oakville Speech Therapy services are provided directly by Joanna Haber-Lazar, a fully licensed and registered professional with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO).
Joanna has lived in the Oakville community with her family since 1993. Originally raised in Montreal, Joanna attended Concordia University and obtaining her Bachelor’s degree with Distinction in Psychology and Applied Social Sciences. She received her Master’s degree from McGill University’s School of Human Communication Disorders in 1992.
Since that time, Joanna has provided assessment, therapy and consultative services to a broad range of clients in both hospital and community settings. Her past experience also includes management, professional practice leadership and clinical mentorship. She is experienced working with clients of all ages, their families and significant others, as well as with community and educational organizations.
Joanna is passionate about communication and is committed to helping individuals reach their full potential by working on their personal goals and the skills they need for success at home, work, school and in community settings.
Joanna is dedicated to continuous quality improvement and lifelong learning as a way to support best practices. She provides clinical education to students attending speech and language training programs and mentorship to newly graduated Speech-Language Pathologists completing their initial practice requirements.
Joanna has presented to professional groups, parents, community groups and other organizations on a variety of communication topics – e.g., speech and language in stroke, dementia, child speech and language development, interpersonal communications skills and many other related topics. She has worked collaboratively with several community partners such as the Next Step to Active Living (NSTAL) and Peel-Halton Acquired Brain Injury Services (PHABIS).
